In loving memory of...
We can believe that we know perfectly well the USA by TV and films, or that it doesn’t have any surprises. In fact, when we visited for the first time we have the impression of being in a film, like a déjà-vu. Even so, we found in the small details many things that shocked us. Costumes, landscapes... As I progress with the travel film scanning, the photos bring back to my mind the experiences and places that really attracted our attention.
This bench of the photo was placed there in memory of a person. His relatives and friends have there a beautiful place to remember him. This is not something strange. In many parks, ways and beaches, there were many benches dedicated to the memory of a loved one and I liked the optimism of the will of remember a person where you had good times with him and invite strangers to share and enjoy the place at the same time. It’s very different to the Spanish idea of the death. Here you can find flowers at the roadside in the place of an accident. It’s like a cross by the sea in memory of a sailor. They remember the tragedy.
When I took this photo it was a cloudy day and the beach was nearly dessert. Elena was having a rest in the car while I went for a walk. When I saw the bench I took the photo at once. Though it was cold I felt like sitting there to look quietly at the landscape and listen the waves breaking on the shore. I was sitting for a while without thinking, just enjoying the calm and the beauty of the place. When I see this photo, I wonder which are the places that I shared with my closest people, where are my happiest memories...
